Primark has grown from a single store in Dublin, Ireland in 1969, to opening its 500th store on 1 September 2026 in Naples, Italy.

Now serving fashion shoppers across 19 countries in Europe, the US and Middle East, Primark currently employs more than 80,000 colleagues, representing 190 nationalities.

Its 500 stores represent around 20 million square feet of retail space, according to the brand.

Officially opening its 500th store on 1 September, Primark CEO Eoin Tonge was joined by members of the company’s leadership team and senior Italian leadership team, alongside the Mayor of Pompei, Giuseppe Tortora, to cut the shop’s ribbon.

The La Cartiera shopping centre store marks a €8 million (£6.86 million) investment for the business.

The opening will be followed by three further store launches this week in Portugal, Romania and Mall of America in the US.

Primark CEO Eoin Tonge said: “Reaching 500 stores is an incredible milestone and we’re so grateful to our loyal customers, suppliers and partners who have grown with us and most of all, our colleagues for everything they do.

“We’re very proud of the role our stores play in the communities, towns and economies they’re part of.

“Getting to 500 demonstrates the enduring strength of our store-led model.

“We see significant opportunities ahead to grow our store footprint and bring Primark to even more customers around the world.”
