Majestic Wine’s retail operations director exits

Majestic Wine has confirmed the departure of Rob Farnworth, who leaves his position as retail operations director after 18 months in the role.

The news comes a week after group chairman Phil Wrigley announced his imminent retirement, and two months after Majestic Wine managing director John Colley resigned to become chief executive of Hobbycraft.

In addition, yesterday Cat Lomax was promoted to head of buying to replace Matt Pym, and last week the alcohol retailer posted a drop in sales figures in its annual report.

According to Retail Week,  Farnworth, who previously had similar roles at Hobbycraft and Screwfix, does not have another job to go to.

Majestic Wine  is c currently middle of a turnaround plan under chief executive Rowan Gormley.

“We said that to improve team retention and engagement at Majestic we needed to make some changes to make the business more entrepreneurial,” Gormely said.

“To achieve this we’ve made some changes to our team and we are rolling out the new Majestic Partner Program to give control back to our store managers and encourage a new entrepreneurial culture.”
