The Works hails record Christmas sales for 7th year running

The Works has revealed record-breaking Christmas sales for the 17th consecutive year as it pushes ahead with ambitious expansion plans.

In the 12 weeks to December 24, the budget retailer saw like-for-like sales rise 6.3 per cent, driven by a 37 per cent growth in its online arm which now accounts for 10 per cent of turnover.

Total sales during the period also shot up 15 per cent, gifting the retailer its highest ever day, week and month.

A £5.3 million investment programme has also seen The Works put forward plans for an additional 50 stores over the next year, adding to the 63 stores it acquired through 2017.

“Our outstanding Christmas performance is the crowning achievement in what has been another hugely successful year for The Works,” chief executive Kevin Keaney said.

“To deliver record sales both online and in-store in such a challenging economic environment and against strong comparatives from last year is an accomplishment we are extremely proud of.

“Our success is down to our strategy of continuously delivering exceptional value to all our customers which ensured we were not forced into heavy discounting before Christmas.”
