Sir Philip Green’s complaint against Lord Peter Hain has been dismissed by the House of Lords standards body.
Hain had named the Arcadia tycoon “to promote justice and liberty” during a House of Lords sitting in October which effectively accused Green of racial abuse and sexual harassment.
The former cabinet minister used the legal protection of the House of Lords to identify Green as the unnamed businessman at the centre of a City #MeToo scandal that had a court injuction at the time.
Green said Hain did not affirm his role as an adviser to the law firm Ince Gordon Dadds, which had acted for The Telegraph in its investigative story on Green.
Hain said the complaint against him had been a distraction from important issues.
“Sir Philip’s complaint always was a malevolent ruse to divert attention from the harassment allegations against him by his employees,” he said.
“I’m grateful to the standards commissioner for finding that the complaint was entirely false.”
Green continues to deny all allegations made against him.
