Local non-food convenience retailer The Original Factory Shop (TOFS) has today announced the appointment of ex-Wiggle Director Tony Page as its new CEO.

Working both domestically and globally, Page will take charge of developing and implementing the retailer‘s forward-looking strategy as TOFS looks to grow in a market increasingly focused on value.

Page has previously worked for Asda/Walmart at senior level including as Non-Food Trading Director while he has also worked at Lloyds Pharmacy and Woolworths.

“I am delighted that Tony is joining as CEO and we look forward to welcoming him to the Board,” said TOFS Chairman David Williams.

“Tony has extensive and relevant experience within UK retail and we are confident that he will successfully accelerate the Company‘s ambitious growth plans as we continue to invest in new convenience department stores, serving many small communities across the UK.

“On behalf of the Board, I would like also to thank Angela Spindler for her hard work and significant contribution to the business.

“During her tenure, Angela led the Company‘s successful expansion programme, establishing its robust financial position and developing an excellent platform for future growth.

“We wish her well for the future.”

Spindler left the retailer in January, just days after it reported a 10 per cent rise in total sales over the Christmas period, moving to internet and catalogue home shopping retail business N Brown Group, though she remains an investor in TOFS and is supporting Page‘s handover.

Commenting on his new role, Page said: “Value and convenience retail are both becoming increasingly attractive to the UK consumer, as evidenced by their growing share of market.

“I am excited by the opportunity to capitalise on TOFS unique retailing position, whereby customers can access quality brands at factory shop prices, to expand the Company‘s foothold across the UK whilst also increasing earnings growth.

“I look forward to working with the team.”
