JD Sports has appointed Angela Luger and Darren Shapland to its board as non-executive directors
Luger will join the sporting retailer‘s remuneration committee and Shapland will take up a position on the audit and risk committee from 1 June 2023.
With extensive experience in digital commerce, digital transformation and marketing across a range of companies including Cadbury’s and Coca Cola, Luger is a former boss of The Original Factory Shop, N Brown Group and was also previously managing director of Debenhams.

She has recently been appointed as a non-executive director of Jet2 and is currently on the board of the New Look, ScS and Portmeirion.
Meanwhile, Shapland has worked with retail and consumer businesses for 35 years as both an executive and non-executive director.
His past roles have included being chief executive of Carpetright and chief financial officer at Sainsbury’s.
Currently chair of Topps Tiles, Shapland has also held non-executive chair and audit chair roles at companies such as Poundland, Ferguson and Ladbrokes.
JD Sports chair Andrew Higginson said: “I am delighted to welcome Angela and Darren to the JD board. They bring a wealth of retail expertise, strengthen the JD board’s Plc experience and complement the board’s existing skills and knowledge.”
Last week the retailer named its first-ever global managing director, to help further drive the group’s growth and meet its ambition to become the “leading global sports-fashion powerhouse”.
Michael Armstrong will report to the sports retailer‘s chief executive Régis Schultz, overseeing the strategic direction of the JD brand, its operations and colleagues, alongside the continued business development and growth of the JD fascia globally.
