British Land has signalled its £9 million development at Glasgow Fort will open earlier than originally anticipated, reports the Herald Scotland.

An eight-screen Vue cinema and five restaurants – TGI, Chiquito, Prezzo, Pizza Express and Harvester – had been scheduled to launch in September this year.

It is now expected the 45,000sq ft extension will open towards the end of July or early August in a bid to capture part of the summer trading season.

British Land also reaffirmed its commitment to a new cinema at its Fort Kinnaird retail park in Edinburgh with Debenhams also signed up for a new store there.

The announcements came as British Land revealed a 1.9 per cent rise in underlying pre-tax profit to £274m while the value of its portfolio crept up 0.5 per cent to £10.5 billion.

The company also owns the Inverness Retail Park and the Bon Accord and St Nicholas centres in Aberdeen as well as numerous shopping centres, retail sites and office premises around the UK.
