Topshop/Topman is to open a flagship store on Fifth Avenue as it continues its international expansion.

The 40,000 sq ft Manhattan store is poised to open in the third quarter of 2014 on the corner of 49th Street and will be Topshop‘s second largest store in the world. Its giant flagship store on the corner of Oxford and Regent Street is 90,000 sq ft.

The retailer already has Topshop and Topman stores in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Las Vegas but owner Sir Philip Green has been eyeing a location on Fifth Avenue for many years.

“I am very excited about Fifth Avenue,” he said.

Topshop/Topman will create “several hundred jobs” in New York through the new store and a new US head office which will house buyers, a visual merchandising team and a marketing department.

“To meet the demands of customers in the US, or elsewhere in the world, while still maintaining the essence of who Topshop‘s strong brand personality is, will require the right technology and marketing professionals to be aligned cross-borders and cross-channels,” commented Daren Fitzgerald, commercial director, digital solutions provider Tryzens. “The logistics to achieve this are phenomenally complex.”

A further 15 Topshop and Topman stores will open across eight countries over the next six months.

UK retailers saw a 64 per cent surge in online searches from key overseas markets including the US and Germany in Q4 2013, according to the BRC/Google Retail Monitor.
