The Fragrance Shop sells 80,000 bottles as last minute gifts

The Fragrance Shop has posted successful figures for the festive period, as shoppers turn to luxury brands for gifts.

In the six weeks to December 31 the perfume retailer posted a like-for-like sales jump of 6.8 per cent, while total sales climbed 12.6 per cent from last year.

Luxury brands spearheaded the spike in sales, as Dior Suavage, Chanel Coco Mademoiselle, Hugo Boss and Yves Saint Laurent proved big sellers in the run-up to Christmas.

According to the retailer, 80,000 bottles of perfume and aftershave were sold on December 23, when shoppers flocked to its 184 stores to buy last minute Christmas gifts.

Chief executive Sanjay Vadera said: “Our complete focus on bringing a wide selection of brands to customers within the best possible retail experience continues to be the secret of our success, while also enabling us to outperform the market in luxury fragrances for the second year running, making this our fastest-growing segment.”
