White Rose Shopping Centre is set to undergo major extension works to enhance its indoor and outdoor leisure and entertainment offerings.

The announcements comes as the Leeds-based shopping centre, which is owned by Land Securities, marks 20 years since it first opened in March 1997.

The extension will see the introduction of an 11-screen Cineworld IMAX cinema, six new restaurants – including popular American burger chain Five Guys – a bespoke play area and an outdoor live events space.

Fashion retailer Next is also carrying out a £6 million upsize by moving into the old space left behind by BHS, refurbishing it and expanding to offer kidswear and homewares.

“We are tremendously proud to be celebrating the 20th anniversary of White Rose,” Land Securities portfolio director Rob Jewell said.

“This is also the year we will see our leisure and entertainment extension open, adding yet more exciting dimensions to the scheme.

“The centre has always been popular with families in Leeds, and the added leisure element will continue to grow our appeal to all generations.

“We are actively engaging and implementing initiatives to maintain the centre‘s importance and central role in the Leeds community.”

White Rose features 100 retailers and is anchored by Marks & Spencer, Debenhams, Primark and Next.

Other retailers include River Island, Zara, Superdry, Lush Cosmetics, H&M, Boux Avenue and Disney.
