Hamleys launches pop-up in Gatwick Airport

Heritage toy store Hamleys has launched its only pop-up shop in Gatwick Airport’s North Terminal, offering a range of this year’s popular toys.

The 270sq ft store will stock a selected range of goods to suit airport shoppers, with many of the toys able to fit comfortably in suitcases and hand luggage.

Passengers will also be able to take a shopping bag of new purchases on board with them.

Staff at the pop-up store will dress as Santa’s elves throughout December, and the iconic Hamleys bear will also reportedly make appearances.

Despite being launched to coincide with the Christmas rush, the store will continue trading in Gatwick into the spring of 2018.

“This is our favourite time of the year and we are really excited to be able to bring smiles to children and families with a great selection of toys as they travel through Gatwick this Christmas,” Hamley’s head of marketing Mark Drummond said.

Gatwick Airport’s head of retail Rachel Bulford added: “As we reach the end of what has been an exciting year for retail at Gatwick, it’s fantastic to add Hamleys – a truly iconic London brand – to our wealth of quality retailers.

“Christmas is the perfect time of year to welcome Hamleys on board, and the store will be ideal for passengers looking to tick some gifts off the shopping list as they await their flight.”
