HMV re-opens in same Boston location 5 years after it left town

HMV is returning to Boston, Lincolnshire, with a new store in the exact same location it used to occupy before it left town five years ago.

The music and entertainment retailer announced this week that it will be moving into a 7134sq ft unit in the town’s Pescod Square Shopping Centre.

The new store is slated to open next month with the lease extending until January 2021.

A spokesperson for Capreon – the Noé Group real estate business which acts as asset mangers for Pescod Square – confirmed with the Retail Gazette that the unit HMV will move into is the exact same one it used to occupy in Boston.

HMV closed down its original store in Pescod Square Shopping Centre in March 2013, around the time the retailer fell into administration earlier that year.

“We are thrilled to be opening a brand new hmv store in Boston in November,” HMV head of retail Laurence Price said.

“We are extremely proud of our heritage and our dedicated staff, who, like our customers, share a passion for the best music and film, tech, t-shirts, gifts and collectables.

“It’s great to announce that hmv is now back in Boston, we look forward to opening our doors very soon.”

HMV’s return to Boston also comes on the back of a surge in demand for vinyl around the country, as well as blockbuster video games releases.

However, just last month it revealed falling sales and profits amid its full year results as the overall physical entertainment sector continued to decline.

Letting agents Fawley Watson Booth and Rowley Hughes Thompson advised Capreon.
