Hammerson centres forecast 2m footfall boost this weekend

Hammerson shopping centres around the UK are poised to welcome two million visitors this weekend due to the Christmas shopping rush.

The news comes as it revealed that footfall across its retail destinations increased 0.6 per cent year-on-year in the first two weeks of December.

“Despite the broader uncertainty, Britain’s consumers are still looking to make this Christmas special, and we’re expecting two million people to visit our centres this weekend.” Hammerson UK managing director Mark Bourgeois said.

There’s always an uptick in footfall at this time of the year, as shoppers start to worry about whether online orders will be delivered in time for the big day.”

Notable assets in Hammerson’s portfolio include the Bullring in Birmingham, Cabot Circus in Bristol, Victoria Gate in Leeds, Westquay in Southampton and Brent Cross in London.
