// Asics aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 55% by 2030
// 30,000 apparel pieces to be collected by Japanese consumers for recycling by 2020

Asics has announced a partnership with I:CO, an innovator in sustainable clothing and shoes, to recycle and reuse its products at eight of its sponsored marathons in Europe this year.

The programme will launch on March 10 at the Barcelona marathon.

The sporstwear retailer is determined to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 55 per cent by 2030.

This initiative is followed by a recent announcement that 30,000 pieces of sports apparel will be collected from Japanese consumers to be recycled by the year 2020.

“As a product driven company, shifting to more sustainable materials and engaging our customers and consumers on our journey to a circular business model are at the heart of our sustainability strategy,” Asics EMEA sustainability manager Romy Miltenburg said.

“We have identified that more than 80 per cent of our CO2 emissions originate from the processes and materials we use to create our footwear and apparel and end of life treatment of sold products.”
