Boots UK has appointed a new retail director in a bid to bolster its boardroom.

Peter Bowrey will join office next week to replace Andrew Caplan, who is moving into the role of director of retail operations.

He was previously operating model director at Big 4 leader Tesco in 2015, before joining homeware retailer Dunelm as retail director until January 2019.

Boots is currently seeking to turn around its operations after profits fell almost 20 per cent last year.

The retailer has been reviewing its store estate and could close around 200 branches.

Earlier this month, Boots said that up to 60 jobs are at risk as the health and beauty retailer looks to transfer its IT help desk overseas.

Boots said the move would “help reduce decision-making time and complexity, as well as improve efficiency”.

Last year, the former Dixons Carphone chief executive Seb James took the helm at Boots.

Moreover, Boots’ parent company Walgreens Boots Alliance appointed Francesco Tinto as its new global chief information officer and senior vice president earlier this month.

I met Peter at a conference in Heathrow around ten years ago. It was clear to me he was very well aquatinted, and highly presentable.
