Lidl has pledged to donate over 250,000 meals to local charities and community groups between November 6 and December 25 2019.

The donation will be part of the 4.3 million meals the German discounter has given away to date.

A total of 1500 local community projects have benefited from Lidl’s food surplus redistribution programme, Feed It Back.

Lidl’s Feed It Back network helps local organisations keep up to date with the food that is available and can pick it up from the grocer when they need it.

“It’s important to us that each and every one of our stores has a positive impact on its community,” Lidl chief executive Christian Härtnagel said.

“That’s why we’re proud to work with Neighbourly, the food redistribution organisation connecting our stores with over 1500 local charities, food banks and community groups who make good use of surplus food. This way, as well as cutting down on food waste, we’re able to support the important work these groups are doing for the people who need it most – particularly around Christmas time.”
