Depop has reportedly begun a hiring spree after witnessing the demand for its service double during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The fashion marketplace is seeking to expand its UK team by almost a quarter by the end of the year, The Telegraph reported.

Depop has already added 60 employees to its team this year due to heightened demand. At least 45 jobs are currently based in the UK.

The shopping app, based in London, said it had boosted new onboarding in its engineering and product teams, after an increased number of consumers shifted towards online shopping amid the pandemic.

Depop estimated that more than 90 per cent of those using its app are under the age of 26, and that a third of all 16-24 year-olds in the UK have downloaded it to try it at least once.

In recent years, Depop has seen increased interest in reselling as consumers become more conscious of their carbon footprint.

In 2019, the marketplace raised almost £48m to expand further into the US.
