AO moves to new 20,000sq ft depot after “rapid expansion”

AO has invested in both logistics warehousing and job creation in the South Lanarkshire area, after a shift in shopping habits with more customers buying appliances online.

The retailer has moved to a 20,000sq ft site on Strutherhill Industrial Estate, which is much larger than its previous depot at Canderside Toll Distribution Centre.

Over the last two years, the retailer has increased its warehousing capacity by over 80%, rapidly growing its distribution network and creating over 1000 logistics jobs across the business.

The new site has created eight new opportunities for people across South Lanarkshire, and there will be several positions available in the delivery driver crews.

The network of depots is supplied by AO’s main distribution centres in Crewe, Stafford and Stoke and the nationwide delivery coverage ensures that AO is never more than one hour away from customers.

“I’m so pleased that we’re able to invest in Larkhall and move to a bigger site in the area – the rapid expansion of AO Logistics is really a testament to the hard work of our people,” AO Logistics managing director, David Ashwell said.

“The new depot is in an ideal location to support our future growth as a business – we’ll be able to serve our customers in South Lanarkshire even better than before and it means we’re securing the best infrastructure for the future.”

AO acquired the two-person delivery company, formerly Expert Logistics, in 2009 and it now offers next day delivery to every UK postcode seven days a week on its range of 12,000 electrical products.
