A former Superdry designer has won a case against the fashion retailer over unfair dismissal and discrimination of age.

Superdry bosses had refused to promote knitwear designer Rachel Sunderland because they thought she was “too old to quit” and would stay “no matter how she was treated”.

Sunderland has received a £96,208 payout as a result.

Rachel, believed to be in her early 50s, was repeatedly passed over for promotion in favour of colleagues with less experience until she felt forced to resign, a tribunal in Bristol heard.

A Superdry spokesperson said: “Superdry is committed to equality for all of its employees. While the Tribunal’s judgment does not reflect our culture and values, we thank it for conducting such a thorough review, respect its decision and will review its findings.”
