M&S names ex-Boohoo Group MD as head of menswear

// M&S names former MD of Boohoo Group’s Dorothy Perkins, Burton and Wallis, Mitch Hughes as director of menswear
// He replaces Wes Taylor who is stepping down from the role this month to retire

Marks & Spencer has appointed former Topshop Topman managing director Mitch Hughes as director of menswear, Drapers has reported.

Hughes replaces Wes Taylor who leaves the department store retailer this month after nearly five years as director of menswear and kidswear at the retailer,

Taylor, who joined M&S in 2018, is leaving the role to retire from a full-time executive career and previously held senior roles at River Island, Kangol and Burton.

Hughes left fashion giant Boohoo Group in October after 18 months in the role of managing director of Dorothy Perkins, Burton and Wallis, which were bought out of administration from Arcadia Group in February 2021.

Prior to this, Hughes was managing director at Topshop and Topman from June 2020 to April 2021 and before that he was trading director and buying and design director at the fashion retailer.

Hughes’ career comes full circle as he started his career in fashion retail in 1997 as a buyer for M&S.

M&S head of menswear buying Alex Dimitriu has been promoted to director of kidswear, which will take effect from February.

Hughes said: “I’m hugely excited to be re-joining the business after over 15 years. I have been impressed with the transformation journey Richard, Wes and team have taken the clothing and home business on. Everyone I’ve met has clarity on the strategy and journey ahead.

“There’s so much opportunity in the menswear market and M&S is now well set up to deliver growth across all markets and channels to their customers.”
