Marks & Spencer names new lingerie director

Marks & Spencer has hired Hunkemöller executive Charlotte Davies as its new lingerie director.

Davies will officially step in the role at the end of June, transitioning from her current job as chief product officer at European lingerie, swimwear, and nightwear brand Hunkemöller, where she has served since 2015.

The appointment comes as Laura Charles retires from the role at the end of March, after over decade with the high street titan, Drapers reports.

With a career spanning almost four decades in the fashion industry, Charles joined M&S back in 2014 as head of buying, lingerie, before her promotion to lingerie director in 2018.

Charles has been credited with the “pivotal role in driving innovation and reshaping M&S’ product offer”, and growing its market leading share across key categories such as bras.

She was also “instrumental” in persuading the UK government to remove VAT from period pants earlier this year, the retailer added.

Last week M&S also announced that co-chief executive Katie Bickerstaffe would be stepping down from her post in July after two years at the helm.

Bickerstaffe is leaving the retailer to focus on a portfolio career and will join B&Q owner Kingfisher’s board as a non-executive director.
