Marks & Spencer is teaming up with luxury streetwear label Aries on a 26-piece capsule collection that sees the relaunch of the heritage St Michael label.
Spanning womenswear and menswear, the collection is designed to rework classic British wardrobe staples through Aries’ streetwear lens. It features pinstripe tailoring, preppy knitwear carrying the St Michael crest, casual separates and slip dresses.
Accessories include a soft green leather handbag inspired by M&S’s iconic carrier bag, as the retailer looks to capitalise on growing shopper interest in its St Michael label across social media and resale platforms.
Maddy Evans, M&S womenswear director said: “Whilst Aries and M&S come from different corners of the fashion world, both brands have built strong identities through distinctive design codes and a loyal following.
“Bringing those worlds together created an opportunity to offer something familiar yet entirely fresh, translating Aries’ iconic creative handwriting through the lens of St Michael and making it accessible to a broader audience at a high-street price point.”
Prices for the collaboration will range from £10 for underwear and £25 for a T-shirt to £120 for a silk dress.
Luxury streetwear label Aries was launched in London by founder Sofia Prantera in 2012. It combines contemporary culture with Prantera’s Central Saint Martin’s training. Products are made in Italy.
Prantera commented: “Growing up, M&S was part of family life. Every summer we would visit from Italy, and it was where I bought my lambswool jumpers. Working with the archive brought back a lot of those memories.
“Some of my favourite pieces in the collection come from personal references. Spencer Bear was gifted to me by my grandmother when I was a child, so it was fun to reintroduce him in an unexpected way. The collaboration gave us an opportunity to revisit things that felt genuinely familiar and look at them through a different lens.”
Earlier this month, US denim giant Levi’s rolled out its latest men’s and women’s collections on M&S.com, as it targeted shoppers across the UK and Ireland.
