Amazon has revealed it will be closing three warehouses in the UK, which will affect 1,200 jobs,

The fulfilment centres in Hemel Hempstead, Doncaster and Gourock, in the west of Scotland, have all been proposed for closure.

An Amazon spokesperson told Sky News that all the workers affected by the cuts will be offered roles at other existing Amazon locations.

The business added that it is looking to open two new major fulfilment centres, in Peddimore in the West Midlands and Stockton-on-Tees in the North Eastm which it hopes will create 2,500 jobs over the next three years.

“We’re always evaluating our network to make sure it fits our business needs and to improve the experience for our employees and customers,” it said.

“As part of that effort, we may close older sites, enhance existing facilities or open new sites, and we’ve launched a consultation on the proposed closure of three fulfilment centres in 2023.

The news comes just days after the ecommerce giant said it would axe over 18,000 jobs from its workforce, the largest number in its history due to economic uncertainty.
