George at Asda reduces suppliers to boost growth

George at Asda has overhauled its supplier base to help “drive significant growth” in the business.

The retailer’s value clothing brand has reduced the number of suppliers it works with as it looks to streamline operations, Drapers reports.

George at Asda vice president Karl Doyle said in an email sent to the suppliers affected that the retailer would move the sourcing and production of its women’s swimwear, adult footwear and accessories to Hong Kong-based supplier Li & Fung.

The increased partnership with Li & Fung and other key suppliers will help “grow the George business in key areas”, the retailer said.

“Li & Fung have significant expertise in these product areas, and we believe that this new smart simple approach will drive significant growth both in store and online, whilst we at George focus our energies and expertise on our clothing categories.”

Earlier this month, George at Asda became the first supermarket clothing brand to launch an adapted clothing collection to support independent dressing for children and young people with disabilities
