The Body Shop chief executive David Boynton is to step down from his role at the end of this month after five and a half years.

Natura&Co board director and former Coach boss Ian Bickley will replace Boynton on an interim basis as the beauty retailer searches for a permanent successor.

Boynton, who took the helm in 2017, has been instrumental in leading the retailer through a pivotal business transformation following the acquisition by its owner Natura & Co.

Prior to The Body Shop, he was the chief executive of Charles Tyrwhitt and held senior roles at L’Occitane and Superdrug’s parent company A.S Watson.

Boynton wrote on LinkedIn: “We have achieved an incredible amount over the last five and a half years.

“I am incredibly proud of the business we have built together and the work we have done to get The Body Shop back to the exciting and inspiring brand it was born to be.

“I want to thank each and every person at The Body Shop for their resourcefulness, resilience, creativity, passion and determination.

Boynton said he was “continue cheering from the sidelines” and was leaving the retailer with “real confidence” in the future of the brand.

“There are strong foundations, a clear, compelling plan and the talent to deliver that plan,” he added.

The retailer said Bickley will work closely with its executive leadership team to refine the current business plan and transformation agenda to accelerate its profitability and return to sustainable revenue.
