Asda launches new food-to-go trial to drive shoppers to stores

Asda has unveiled a new food-to-go trial as part of its plan to become the UK’s number two supermarket.

The Asda Food Hub will first be trialled throughout the grocer’s Leicester and Dagenham stores, and could be rolled out to further UK supermarkets if it performs well.

The concept will include a concession at the front of store serving coffee as well as other grab-and-go products.

Food options will change throughout the day, serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon snacks and meal deal options.

Shoppers will be able to place their orders via touch screen tablets upon entering stores.

The grocer will also revamp ten of its pizza and hot food counters as part of the launch.

A spokesperson for the supermarket said: “We’re always looking for ways to give shoppers more quality choices at affordable prices and the new Asda Food Hub is a great example of us investing in our stores to be able to provide that for shoppers”.

Asda recently added 47 items to its food-to-go range under a £1.2m investment.

The grocer unveiled a 9.6% sales jump in its second quarter to 30 June, driven by the surge of shoppers snapping up its Just Essentials value range.
