Asda adds 47 items to food-to-go range under £1.2m investment

Asda has added 47 new items to its food-to-go range, as it invests £1.2m in the category.

The move marks the biggest reset of its food-to-go range in six years, the supermarket said.

Shoppers will be able to buy products from the category under Asda’s meal deal at prices from £2.20 for a snack, sandwich or drink.

The new food items in the range vary from thick sub rolls to pasta dishes, as well as 19 snacking lines.

The reset comes as the grocer aims to solidify its place in the convenience sector.

Asda own brand senior manager Joanna Johnson said: “Growing our convenience offer is a key pillar in our strategy to becoming the UK’s number two retailer so we’re excited to see how this range plays an integral role in this growth as we progress our roll out of Asda Express stores over the next 12 months”.

The news comes as it emerged that Asda workers involved in an equal pay battle received a significant boost to their case.

The largely female shopfloor are taking legal action against the supermarket over why they are paid between £1.50 and £3 less an hour than their predominately male warehouse colleague.

An email leaked to ITV News yesterday, which was sent to all claimants by their legal team at Leigh Day, said an independent expert which compared the two roles scored shopfloor jobs slightly higher.

Asda could face a £1.2bn if they lose the case.
