Harvey Nichols CEO Manju Malhotra quits

Harvey Nichols boss Manju Malhotra has resigned from her post after 25 years at the luxury department store.

Malhotra was promoted to chief executive in January 2020 and will leave the business at the end of the year.

She will be replaced by Pearson Poon, the son of Sir Dickson Poon who has owned Harvey Nichols through his company Dickson Concepts since 1991.

Pearson Poon, who is an executive director, will be made vice chairman until a permanent replacement is found.

Malhotra said: “I have had the most amazing 25 years at Harvey Nichols, starting from a member of the finance team to becoming CEO.

“I have been fortunate to work with many wonderfully talented people and partners both in the UK and internationally.

“Together, we have galvanised Harvey Nichols, leveraging its position in the market as a luxury destination delivering exceptional in-store and digital customer experiences.”

Harvey Nichols chairman Sir Dickson Poon said: “Manju has been instrumental in driving the business through unprecedented times and laid out strong foundations which we will continue to build on for the future.”

Harvey Nichols has been struggling to bounce back since the pandemic.

The luxury department store retailer racked up losses of £30m in the year to May 2022, a sharp drop from the £2.7m profit in 2020.

Sales for the period surged 58% to £192m, compared to £121m the year before, but were still below the £222m posted pre-pandemic.
