Ocado slashes prices on further 200 items

Ocado has kicked off its Back to School price cuts, with a further 200 items reduced in its Big Price Drop.

Products included in the online grocer’s drop particularly focus on a variety of helpful
items for back to school shopping, including Heinz Beans (-6%, was £4, now £3.75 for four cans), Copella Apple Juice (-29%, was £2.80, now £2), Walkers Ready Salted crisps (-3%, was £3.25, now £3.15 for 12 packs) and Ocado Own-Range easy peelers (-6%, was £1.20, now £1.10).

The latest round of reductions follows Ocado’s price cuts on 100 products back in June and the launch of the Ocado Price Promise earlier in 2023.

The initiative compares prices against over 10,000 like-for-like products on Tesco.com. If a customer’s shop would have been cheaper at Tesco, they receive the difference off their next shop.

Ocado Retail chief executive Hannah Gibson said: “Ocado is known for our amazing
service and unbeatable choice – and delivering great value is just as important to us.
Many of the products we’ve reduced today will help with those back-to-school shops
and include big name brands, Ocado Own-Range and M&S items too.

“We’re committed to offering our customers reassuringly good value and are working hard to add more products to the Big Price Drop soon.”

At the start of the month news emerged that the retailer is planning on expanding its same-day delivery options to create more slots for customers as it faces growing pressures from part-owner M&S to start showing signs of a turnaround.

Although the grocer offers same-day delivery in most locations across the UK, its availability is limited to a few thousand each week.

It is believed that Ocado’s focus will be on insentivising shoppers to order larger deliveries for same-day slots, rather than purchasing last-minute ingredients which are typically sold on delivery apps.
