Ex-H&M sustainability boss joins Zalando

Zalando has named sustainable apparel expert Pascal Brun as its new vice president of sustainability, diversity and inclusion.

In his new role at the German online fashion giant, Brun will report to Padmaja Bommareddy, SVP of Corporate Development where he will be responsible for driving the retailer’s “strong commitment to the areas of sustainability and D&I and further integrating them into the strategic ambitions of the company”.

Brun joins Zalando after 16 years at fellow fashion giant H&M where he worked across different continents and a range of management roles, including sustainability and supply chain management.

Pascal Brun said: “I am thrilled to embark on this new journey at Zalando. The new setup – embedding sustainability and D&I in the strategic heart of the Zalando organisation – will give my team the right lever to contribute meaningfully in the near and long term future, by building upon the great foundation work that has been done in the last years.

“I feel honoured that I can guide Zalando to strive for positive impact and meaningful growth across our value chain.”

Last month, the retailer almost doubled its adjusted EBIT in its second quarter as it grew 87% to €144.8m year-on-year.

The group attributed the rise to more focused marketing, better order economics and bigger average basket sizes which led to lower fulfillment costs.
