Uniqlo UK boss vows to cut prices to attract more shoppers

Uniqlo’s UK boss has committed to reducing prices as inflation eases as it seeks to attract more shoppers amid its expansion in the country.

It has already cutting the price of some products, with cashmere sweaters falling from £129 to £109 over the past year, while many jumpers and hoodies have also been reduced from £39.90 to £34.90.

The fashion chain plans to pass on the falling cost of materials to consumers by cutting prices on premium items, Alessandro Dudech told The Telegraph.

“We believe in passing on those price reductions,” the Uniqlo boss said. “As the prices of natural resources like cashmere and merino go down, we’re trying to bring that back to customers.”

The price cuts come as Uniqlo ramps up its expansion in the UK, with Dudech revealing that its customer base is “growing very rapidly” here.

The Japanese retailer, which only has 17 shops in the UK despite launching here 16 years ago, will soon open its new Oxford Street flagship near Tottenham Court tube, with a store on Edinburgh’s Princes Street set to follow.
