Aldi confirms new store locations under £550m investment

Aldi is set to open 35 new UK stores this year, after launching its 1,000th supermarket in Woking last year.

The discount grocer will open shops in Preston and Derby later in March, with further sites planned across Castle Gresley, Bardon, High Wycombe, and Stoke Gifford in the coming months.

The new stores follow Aldi opening shops in Skelmersdale and Newport earlier this year.

The openings come under Aldi’s long-term target to launch 1,500 stores across the UK, with the supermarket set to invest £550m on expanding its UK footprint this year alone.

Each shop opening is set to create around 40 new jobs on average, according to the discount grocer.

Aldi UK managing director of national real estate Jonathan Neale said: “After attracting more new customers than any other supermarket in the last 12 months*, we’re more determined than ever to expand our presence across the country.

“We want to make high-quality food accessible to all, and shoppers know they’ll always get more for their money when shopping at Aldi.”

Earlier this month, Aldi unveiled its wish list of top priority locations to open stores across London, including Notting Hill, Chelsea and Richmond.

In February, the company also confirmed it was set to create 5,500 new jobs this year, as it sought to “continue growing at speed throughout 2024”.
