Frasers puts kidswear businesses into administration

Frasers Group has called in administrators for Kids Cavern and Base Childrenswear, retailers it purchased from JD Sports as part of a £47.5m deal just over a year ago.

Kroll Advisory were appointed as joint administrators to both retailers on 8 March, Drapers reported. It comes as Frasers placed Matches, the high end online fashion retailer it bought late last year, into administration this month.

The childrenswear retailers were among 14 businesses bought by Frasers Group from JD Sports back in December 2022. The acquisition also included brands including Tessuti, Choice, Cricket, Missy Empire, Pretty Green, and Scotts.

Currently, Base Childrenswear operates from four stores in Westfield London, Westfield Stratford, Bluewater and Birmingham, all of which have been rebranded as Flannels Junior since last summer.

Meanwhile, Kids Cavern has three stores in Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle, with the Manchester location trading as Flannels Junior.

Closing down sales have began in all seven stores and around 50 staff members are at risk of redundancy.
