Kingfisher launches home improvement marketplace at French DIY giant

Kingfisher is launching a home improvement e-commerce marketplace at Castorama France, as it continues to develop its marketplace offer.

Castorama France will launch more than 500,000 new products from verified third-party merchants onto its e-commerce channels, marking a sevenfold rise in its product choice available for the banner’s customers.

All third-party merchants will be selected by Castorama experts and go through a verification process to ensure they meet Castorama’s quality and ethical standards.

Under the marketplace, merchants will be able to raise their profile through association with Castorama’s brand and access retail media solutions offered by the business, Kingfisher said.

The launch comes after the company’s growth of its marketplaces at B&Q in the UK which launched back in 2022, Brico Dépôt in Spain and Portugal and its Koçtaş joint venture in Turkey.

The business is preparing to launch a further marketplace harnessing its technology platform at its Castorama Poland banner later this year.

Kingfisher group digital director Marc Vicente said: “The launch of Castorama France’s marketplace is a very exciting milestone in our e-commerce strategy. We know that choice is vital for customers in e-commerce, particularly in home improvement, and our marketplaces are enabling us to deliver a vastly expanded product offering, at pace.

“The launch is a great example of our Powered by Kingfisher strategy in action. With the support of the Group’s marketplace technology and expertise, Castorama France has been able to build a compelling offer, tailored for the needs of its customers.”

Last month, Kingfisher unveiled a new target for 20,000 workers to have completed an apprenticeship, traineeship or formal qualification by 2030.

The news came after the retailer exceeded its learning target two years early, with employees completing over 6.6m skills for life learning hours since 2019/20, ahead of its target of five million hours by 2025.
