Asda is opening its sixth standalone George store, with further aims to convert its Asda Living estate into dedicated fashion and lifestyle destinations.
The supermarket giant will relaunch its Asda Living store at Cortonwood Retail Park in Barnsley as a 28,000 sq ft George store on Thursday 9 July.
The existing branch will close from Sunday 28 June while the site is refurbished.
The new store will stock George’s full fashion offer across womenswear, menswear and childrenswear, alongside expanded home ranges including bedding, bath, dining and home accessories.
Shoppers will also be able to browse seasonal collections, including Yasmin Le Bon’s latest George fashion edit and Stacey Solomon’s George Home range.
The Barnsley store will feature upgraded fitting rooms, more self-service tills and a streamlined parcel collection service as Asda looks to improve the in-store experience around its non-food offer.
It marks the latest step in Asda’s push to build George into a destination brand in its own right, rather than simply a clothing range attached to its supermarkets.
It began rolling out the standalone George concept after launching stores in Leeds and Hull last year. It has since opened further sites in Peterborough, Lincoln and Maidstone.
Asda said earlier this year it would accelerate plans to open 10 standalone George concept stores in 2026, replacing parts of its Asda Living estate with a more focused fashion and home format.
George managing director Liz Evans has previously said the concept stores had received a strong response from customers, who had embraced the expanded ranges, refreshed layouts and improved shopping experience.
