Currys has posted a seven per cent rise in like-for-like sales as it benefited from strong demand for cooling products during the summer heatwave.

The retailer recorded the increase across the 17 weeks to 29 August, with trading also boosted by continued growth across its Nordic operations.

The performance marks a further acceleration for Currys, which delivered 4% group like-for-like growth across its previous financial year.

Its UK and Ireland business had grown like-for-like sales by three per cent during 2025/26, while the Nordics increased six per cent as consumer sentiment across the region improved.

The latest trading period was supported by unusually hot summer weather, which drove shoppers towards cooling technology such as fans and air-conditioning products.

Currys has also been pushing beyond its traditional electricals offer as it looks to unlock new sources of growth.

It has increased its focus on areas including business-to-business sales, new product categories and recurring services such as credit, repairs and mobile.

During its last financial year, recurring services revenue rose seven per cent to £873m, while UK and Ireland B2B sales climbed 20 per cent. Sales across newer categories surged 52 per cent.

Currys has also highlighted artificial intelligence as a significant growth opportunity, with AI-enabled laptops becoming an increasingly important part of its computing business.

The company ended its 2025/26 financial year with group revenue of £9.25bn, up six per cent, while adjusted pre-tax profit climbed 18 per cent to £191m.

The business entered the new year with £176m of net cash and said in July that early trading had been “very solid”, despite continued uncertainty in the wider economy.

The latest update is one of the first major trading announcements under new group chief executive Fredrik Tønnesen, who took the top job in August after previously leading Currys’ Nordic division.

He succeeded Alex Baldock, who stepped down after almost eight years at the helm.

Currys operates across the UK and Ireland alongside its Elkjøp business in the Nordics, with 691 stores across six countries.
