Pets at Home to close all stores on Boxing Day in recognition of staff’s hard work

// For the third year in a row, the pet care business will close all stores and grooming salons on Boxing Day
// Stores and salons will reopen with reduced Bank Holiday hours on Tuesday 27th December

Pets at Home has confirmed it will close all retail stores and grooming salons on Boxing Day in recognition of colleagues’ hard work throughout the year.

The pet specialist said the decision to close stores for the third-year running has been taken following another busy year in stores, to allow colleagues to spend more time with loved ones during the festive period.

Although, in the interest of pet welfare, it said some vet practices within stores will remain open.

Stores and salons will reopen with reduced Bank Holiday hours on Tuesday 27th December.

Pets at Home chief executive Lyssa McGowan said: “Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and the decision to close our stores once again on Boxing Day is just one small way of saying thank you.

“We hope that when the festive season comes our colleagues can enjoy a well-earned rest and take time to relax with their family, friends, and of course, their beloved pets.”

At the start of the month, Pets at Home tapped former Google executive Rachel Mooney as its new chief people officer.

Mooney held senior roles at Google and Vodafone and was chief people officer at Monzo and Snow Software.

She is recognised for developing talent acquisition strategies, upskilling leadership, and shaping organisational effectiveness.
