Morrisons supermarket and manufacturing workers have voted in favour of a new pay deal that will see the customer assistant hourly rate rise to £13.11 later this year.
It said the agreement, which covers colleagues under its national agreement with USDAW, received a 91.87 per cent vote in favour in a recent ballot.
The deal will now be implemented in three phases, with the first stage having already taken effect on 30 March, when the established customer assistant rate rose to £12.81. All other hourly rates covered by the agreement increased by 10p at the same time.
From 20 July, the customer assistant rate will rise again from £12.81 to £13, while all other established hourly rates under the agreement will increase by 19p.
A further increase will follow on 26 October, when the customer assistant rate climbs to £13.11. All other hourly rates covered by the deal will rise by another 11p.
Morrisons said all eligible hourly paid colleagues will also receive a one-off fixed payment of between £25 and £175, depending on their contractual hours.
The supermarket had previously lifted its customer assistant pay rate from £12.21 to £12.71 on 30 March, in line with the new National Living Wage.
Morrisons group people director Jodie Keating said: “We’re pleased that we can now implement the pay proposal and increase pay for our colleagues to reward them for the contribution they make to our business.
“I would like to thank all our colleagues for everything they continue to do for Morrisons.”
