With just over 13 weeks to go, John Lewis has opened the doors to its Christmas shop with the partnership stressing it is “the ultimate one-stop destination for everything needed to make the season feel magical”.

Pop-up festive shops will open in John Lewis stores across the UK, and will feature trees, lights, and tableware, as well as nostalgic decorations, gifts, and wrapping.

Shoppers are already getting wrapped up and preparing ahead of the festive rush. Demand is surging across key categories, with searches for Christmas gift tags up by 50 per cent, tableware up 25 per cent, and stockings up 50 per cent, according to the retailer.

Wrapping paper is topping shoppers’ lists, with the Gruffalo emerging as a sought-after design.

Cydney Ball, head of christmas at John Lewis sais: “After months of planning, creating and bringing our vision to life, it’s incredibly exciting to finally open the doors to our Christmas shop and share it with our customers.

“Christmas at John Lewis is about so much more than finding the perfect gift or ornament for the tree. It’s about the anticipation, the nostalgia and those little moments that make the season feel magical. We can’t wait for our customers to step inside and start their Christmas story with us.”

Earlier this month, the John Lewis Partnership announced the recruitment of more than 10,400 seasonal roles across the UK, stressing that these roles are not just for Christmas.

Open to people of all ages, there will be 6,000 listings across Waitrose’s 320 branches, and 2,600 roles available in John Lewis’ 36 shops. A further 1,800 positions will be in the retailer’s distribution centres and supply chain.

The department store has been preparing for the Christmas rush for over a month. It opened the waiting list for its beauty advent calendar on 11 August, with the online festive shop opening on 28 August.

On 03 September, it introduced a ‘Gift List’ content series.
