Asos to buy £30m US factory amid international push

Online fashion retailer Asos is preparing to open a new $40 million (£30.6 million) factory in the US as it pushes for more presence across the pond.

The new fulfillment centre is expected to be completed by next year and will “significantly enhance” the company‘s American offering, enabling faster, more efficient and more flexible delivery options.

Currently Asos only has a small fulfillment centre in the country, which is capable of handling around 25 per cent of the orders made in the US.

The new factory in Atlanta‘s Union City will take the pressure off the other 75 per cent of US orders currently handled in the UK.

“This agreement is a major step forward for Asos in the US and demonstrates the opportunity we believe lies ahead in this key market,” chief executive Nick Beighton said.

“Our US fulfilment centre will enable us to significantly develop our proposition for our 20-something US customers supporting our continued growth and future ambitions.”

The news comes after Asos posted runaway growth of 32 per cent for the four months to June 30, driven largely by international sales which rose 42 per cent.

The new 10 million unit facility will be seen as a move to capitalise on growing sales outside of the UK.
