Go Outdoors revealed as Fishing Republic’s new owner

// Go Outdoors named as retailer that rescued Fishing Republic from administration
// Fishing Republic initially appointed administrators on December 20
// New owners were secured soon after, but identity was not known until now

Go Outdoors has been revealed as the new owner that acquired Fishing Republic out of administration at the tail end of last year.

Fishing Republic initially fell into administration on December 20, with Andrew Poxon and Julien Irving from Leonard Curtis appointed as administrators.

News emerged following day that the administrators managed to complete a deal to sell the fishing retailer, but the identity of the new owner was not disclosed at the time.

Go Outdoor’s rescue deal secures the jobs of all 111 staff across Fishing Republic’s 14 stores.

Go Outdoors itself was acquired by JD Sports in 2016 in a £112 million deal.

Fishing Republic will now be added to JD Sports’ division of outdoors brands.

“We’re delighted to have secured the business and are very excited about the acquisition,” JD Sports outdoor division chief executive Lee Bagnall said.

“Our Go Outdoors fishing business is already significant and this gives Fishing Republic and some of our branded partners a huge opportunity for the future.”
