Retailers are joining the Global Climate Strike which kicks off today, to show their support for young climate strikers and demand an end to the age of fossil fuels.

Retailers such as Vivienne Westwood, Allbird, Patagonia and Amazon have pledged support to the climate campaign.

It is the movement’s first-ever event and is due to take place across the world from September 20-27.

Vivienne Westwood, US outdoor clothing retailer Patagonia and footwear retailer Allbirds will all close their stores as part of the event in order to allow employees to attend local demonstrations.

Meanwhile, over 1000 Amazon employees are expected to participate, in hope that the tech giant will commit to “zero emissions by 2030″.

“The climate crisis is a human issue affecting all of us,” Patagonia general manager EMEA Ryan Gellert said.

“We are inspired by the youth activists who have led a global movement, and Patagonia is calling for urgent and decisive action for people and our home planet.

“As a global business, we will be closing our stores on 20 and 27 September, striking with the youth activists and calling for governments around the world to take action.”
