H&M Group has appointed Alan Boehme as its chief technology officer as the fashion retail empire steps up its digital transformation scheme.

Boehme will be co-leading a new division within the company called Business Tech alongside chief product officer Daniel Claesson.

The division will be working to improve H&M Group’s ability to innovate and develop its digital capabilities as it looks to give customers a “smoother” shopping experience.

Boehme will also replace outgoing chief technology officer Joel Ankarberg, who will now fully assume the role of head of group strategy and transformation.

“Alan’s long experience from previous technology driven transformations at global consumer-oriented companies will contribute to the entire H&M group as we continue to digitalise and transform our business,” H&M Group chief executive Helena Helmersson said.

“We look forward to a strong addition to H&M Group and our new function Business Tech.”

Prior to joining H&M, Boehme was chief technology innovation officer at Procter & Gamble and prior to that worked with Coca Cola.

He said: “The fashion industry is facing great changes, new opportunities and experiences for customers and societies because of technology advances at an ever-increasing pace.

“Combining technology advancements, will serve as a driver for H&M Group to become an even more customer centric company where new growth opportunities are enabled.

“I’m excited about being part of accelerating H&M Group’s digital transformation.”

H&M Group owns Arket, Monki, Weekday, Cos, & Other Stories, H&M Home and H&M itself.
