Co-op has removed plastic from its Christmas wrapping paper range to offer customers a “guilt-free” shopping experience.
The retailer removed the plastic film from around the rolls of Christmas wrap and has saved almost a million pieces of plastic.
Co-op said it continues its commitment to sustainability, removing unnecessary plastic from its packaging and products.

Co-op’s new look Christmas wrapping paper is fully recyclable and provides a sustainable alternative to combat the huge amount of waste.
The full gifting range, including crackers, cards and accessories, are also 100 per cent recyclable, with all ribbons changed to a cellulose based plastic free material and bag handles and cracker contents being changed to paper or a more sustainable option.
“Last year, we made great strides to reduce our use of plastic in our Christmas range, and this year we have gone above and beyond, with plans to launch the most sustainable gifting range in 2022,” Co-op product developer, Simon Robinson said.
“We’re looking forward to a Christmas that will hopefully be a little more normal and the gift of giving will be back in full swing.”

That is brilliant work. Well done, Co-op! There is also a plastic free sticky tape that they may want to consider in future too! I’m 100% behind them on this. They should look at their plastic milk bottles next.
Shame you lose a bit of paper when you try and get the sticky label off, as doesn’t come away easily and rips quite a bit off paper in the process which you then have to throw that bit away
