Marks and Spencer will roll out 700 polytouch kiosks to its high-street stores in a move to reduce queuing times and improve customer service.
The multi touch system, made by Wincor Nixdorf and Pyramid Computer GmbH, is the first to be equipped with Chip & PIN technology to PCI DSS standards which allows customers to safely pay for purchases instantly.
Kyle McGinn, Head of M&S New Channels and Digital Labs, said he was encouraged by the customer feedback it has received so far.
“Our goal is to be the best of M&S in every store and these kiosks do that in a convenient and practical way, whilst also providing inspiration and choice.”
The roll-out follows a February 2011 trial in six stores.
The terminals allow M&S to offer an extended range of online and in-store items and a more detailed product information at the point of sale.
