News of a heatwave hitting Britain this week has prompted Morrisons to divert 1000 head office staff into stores in anticipation of an influx of customers.

This will see lawyers and IT staff serving customers and stacking shelves in a move that will see 8000 extra hours of service in stores.

During a hot week such as the one forecasted in the coming days, Britain‘s fourth-largest supermarket expects to sell 42,000 burger buns and 70,000 bottles of water.

It also predicts a rise of 250 per cent in ice lollies and a 75 per cent increase in ice cream sales.

“Customers will want to picnic and party in this very welcome spell of hot weather so we need our head office team to help serve them and support our in-store staff,” Morrisons people director Clare Grainger said.
