High street chain Fat Face has revealed plans to close 10 of its stores on Boxing Day next week as part of a new trial.

Speaking to Retail Week, chief executive Anthony Thompson said if this turned out successful, more Fat Face stores could be earmarked for closure on the same day next year.

He said it depended on how it impacted on the retailer financially, as Boxing Day is a bumper sales day.

Fat Face‘s stores in Reading, Glasgow, Stratford-upon-Avon, Fowey, Frome, Hereford, Tunbridge Wells, Shrewsbury, Ecclesall Road in Sheffield and Aldeburgh are all pegged for closure on Monday next week.

The news comes after Westminster last week rejected a petition with 200,000-plus signatures demanding that shops shut on Boxing Day.
