High end fashion retailer Ralph Lauren is facing boycott calls on social media after the global brand dressed the new First Lady for Donald Trump‘s US Presidential inauguration ceremony last Friday.

Melania Trump wore a powder-blue dress that was custom made for her by Ralph Lauren, which has a few stores around the UK and trades online.

Since the inauguration, the fashion brand and its eponymous designer and founder has become the target of #boycottralphlauren hashtag trend on Twitter.

Many thought this showed Lauren didn‘t care about the numerous allegations against the new US President concerning sexual assault towards women.

Harpar‘s Bazaar reported that the fashion brand immediately began to receive complaints the moment it became known who dressed Melania Trump.

However, Lauren also dressed Hillary Clinton for the same inauguration ceremony, who wore a white pant suit.

According to Glamour, Lauren has never revealed his political affiliations and has dressed numerous US First Ladies.
