American Eagle Outfitters withdraws from UK market

Almost three years after entering the UK market, US fashion retailer  American Eagle Outfitters has decided to withdraw from the country.

According to Retail Week, the fashion brand has ceased trading at its two London stores in Westfield Stratford City and Westfield London shopping centres, and closed down its Bluewater shopping centre store in Kent last week.

It is also thought that American Eagle will be halting its UK ecommerce platform.

The news comes after the company in 2015 indicated plans to expand outside London with further store launches in 2016 and this year.

American Eagle’s UK withdrawal comes almost three years after it made its debut in the country, with the three store launches occurring in November 2014.

The Pittsburgh-based company has around 950 stores in the US, and its fashion range targets 15 to 25-year-olds.

American Eagle has not yet provided comment.
