Sainsbury’s seeks 11,500 seasonal staff amid major recruitment drive

11,500 jobs are up for grabs across the Sainsbury’s group during the upcoming Christmas rush as the retail giant launches its seasonal recruitment drive.

As the most important quarter in the retail calendar gets underway, Sainsbury’s is searching for 5500 seasonal colleagues across a number of roles including online assistants, delivery drivers and café staff.

The temporary colleagues will reportedly be contracted for three months and be given an average of 15 hours per week, while existing colleagues will be offered extra hours upon request.

Elsewhere, its stablemate Argos is looking to hire 5000 customer advisors and stock assistants, promising to offer the “vast majority” of staff contracts of up to 20 hours per week.

It is also seeking an additional 1000 delivery drivers to meet demand for ‘Fast Track’ deliveries, which can see items delivered in as little as four hours, as it expects a double-digit increase in demand for the service throughout December.

A number of these seasonal roles also reportedly have the potential to develop into permanent roles where vacancies exist.

“Christmas is an extra special time and it’s our mission to make sure that customers can easily get everything they want in our stores and online,” group HR director Angie Risley said.

“Black Friday and Christmas are busy times in retail and it’s really exciting to work with us during the festive period.

“If you enjoy helping people, like working in a team with friendly, enthusiastic colleagues and want to learn new skills, then this is the right job for you.”
